Knoppix+LKB Input Method Notes

IPA input support is provided by the IPA-X-SAMPA input method.

  • Activation: Activate SCIM the normal way (Ctrl-Space-Shift), then click the language selector, click Other, and choose IPA-X-SAMPA.
  • Character tables: This input method follows the X-SAMPA phonetic alphabet. The X-SAMPA Wikipedia page has a good overview.
  • Source package: scim-tables-additional
  • Other notes: There seem to be font encoding issues with this input method and Emacs -- characters entered with it come out as blank squares. Emacs has its own IPA input method that works fine, however.
