Integrated Development Environment

For Windows-based editing of LaTeX files, I highly recommend using TeXnicCenter. The program is great for editing LaTeX files. Be sure to check out the ability to create template files.

Installing from the Web

MikTeX provides an executable to download and install packages from the web. The installation is very intuitive, and extra packages can be installed after using the MikTeX Package Manager (which is installed during the first part).
