Due to the architecture of the M1 chip for newer Macbook's it is necessary to use an alternate method of configuring the UbuntuLKB Virtual machine.
---++ Install UMT

Obtain and install the latest copy of the UMT Virtualization software: https://mac.getutm.app/

---++ Download Virtual Hard Drive

Download the last ".qcow2" File from: https://uakari2.ling.washington.edu/knoppixlkb/<br /><br />At the time of the latest edit of this wiki that file is named "m1-xubuntu+lkb 27-disk001.qcow2, and is 16GB

---++ Create New Virtual Machine
   1 Open UMT Virtualization software, and create a new virtual machine.
   1 Select "Emulate" when given a choice between "virtualize" or "Emulate"
   1 Under Operating System select: "Other"
   1 Regarding the boot question, choose "None" and click "Continue"
   1 Under Hardware: select at least 1024 MB of Memory
   1 Under Storage: Select 10GB
   1 Under "Shared DIrectory" you may choose a directory on your computer that will become visible inside the VM, This is helpful in transfering files to and from the VM.
   1 Name the VM "Ubuntu LKB", or some other name that will identify it for you.
   1 Next you will select the Created VM in UTM's list of VM's, and click the Settings button in the Upper right hand corner.
   1 Under "Drives" select IDE Drive, and click "Delete Drive"
   1 Click "new Drive" and select "Import"
   1 Select the .qcow2 file that was downloaded earlier. and press "open"
   1 Under "QEMU", Make sure the "UEFI Boot" Checkbox is NOT checked and press save.
   1 You should now be able to boot the Virtual Machine.
