Git is installed by default alongside Xcode, but if you want to make sure you are running the latest version, you may install another version by [[CommandlineTools][installing !MacPorts or Homebrew]] and installing one of their packages for git.

Git should be easy to install via your default package manager. For instance in a Debian-based distro (such as Ubuntu) you can likely use the command
<pre>sudo apt install git-all</pre>
---++ Windows

If you have installed one of the [[CommandlineTools#windows][POSIX shells reccomended here]], you should be able to install git with the accompanying package manager, or via [[https://chocolatey.org/packages/git][chocolatey]] if using cmd.exe or powershell.
